Greenland 2026: Mission for the Ice Sheet
At the Front Lines of Climate Change: A Mission to Serve and Understand.
In 2026, Sustainable Strides undertakes an ambitious journey across the Greenland Ice Sheet—a critical commitment to data collection, local advocacy, and education that directly benefits the communities most impacted by a rapidly changing Arctic.
From Qaanaaq to Isortoq: A Critical Traverse
In June 2026, the Sustainable Strides team will embark on a multi-week, human-powered traverse of the Greenland Ice Sheet. Utilizing snowkites for low-impact travel, the journey covers a longitudinal path from the High Arctic settlement of Qaanaaq in the north to the eastern coast near Isortoq. This specific route is strategically chosen for its scale and the diverse climate zones it crosses, providing unparalleled access necessary to meet our core objectives.
Mission Objectives: Delivering Impact
Our core mission objectives for the 2026 expedition are the tangible deliverables that will generate long-term benefit and advance the global understanding of a rapidly changing Arctic.
1. Critical Scientific Contribution:
The expedition will collect valuable environmental data from remote and rarely-traversed areas of the ice sheet to make a meaningful contribution to ongoing international climate research.
2. Amplifying Local Resilience:
Through dedicated storytelling, we will elevate the voices and perspectives of Greenlandic communities, ensuring their traditional knowledge and lived experiences are central to the global conversation on climate change and adaptation.
3. Empowering Future Leaders:
This mission is committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation through outreach and documentation, providing real-world examples of resilience, scientific inquiry, and purposeful living.
